The Black Moon
We're ending September (and beginning October) with a lunar event that hasn't occurred since March 2014.
The Black Moon is the name given to the second new moon in a month.
Usually, there is only one full moon and one new moon in a month, so the appearance of a second new moon is worthy of praise.
The New moon occurs when the sun hits the side of the lunar surface that's facing away from Earth which is the dark-side of a Black Moon, in more ways than one. Because it's not illuminated by the sun, the Black Moon will be mostly invisible to us, in the night sky. However, just because we can't see it, doesn't mean we cannot benefit from it's amazing energy.
This is a powerful occurrence that won't occur again until July 2019.
So what exactly is a New Moon?
"Once each month, the moon comes all the way around in its orbit so that it is more or less between us and the sun. If the moon always passed directly between the sun and Earth at new moon, a solar eclipse would take place every month. But that doesn’t happen every month. Instead, in most months, the moon passes above or below the sun as seen from our earthly vantage point.
On the day of new moon, the moon rises when the sun rises. It sets when the sun sets. It crosses the sky with the sun during the day. That’s why we can’t see the new moon in the sky. It is too close to the sun’s glare to be visible. Plus its lighted hemisphere is facing away from us.
Then a day or two later, the moon reappears, in the west after sunset. Then it’s a slim waxing crescent visible only briefly after sunset – what some call a young moon. Each new lunar cycle is measured beginning at each new moon. Astronomers call one lunar cycle a lunation." - via EarthSky.Org
The Black Moon is known to be highly energetic and is often observed as a time of abundance and intense blessings. The New Moon phase is most often used for aiding in healing, personal growth, and the manifestation of new ventures and/or projects. It is a good time to cleanse and charge yourself, crystals, and energy, as we have the opportunity to start new.
Use this time to partake in manifestation and healing rituals.
Be mindful, because during the Black Moon phase, the rituals that you partake in will be amplified in their power. During this start of new beginnings you want to know that this powerful energy will remain amplified for 2 days, proceeding the Black Moon. With this in mind, you want to make sure that you take advantage of this time, and be mindful of what you are creating. In other words..."Be careful what you ask for."
It is said that new projects and changes that begin on a Black Moon have a special energy and are most likely to succeed. Those in relationships should use the energy of the Black Moon to aid in planning their future. This is to be especially true if the couple in the relationship is in an engagement or planning a wedding. Some people even wait until a Black Moon to propose to their significant other or plan to have their wedding on the day of the Black Moon, to maximize the energy of this time period and insure the greatest success for the union.
In some pagan cultures the Black Moon is seen as a time for intense reflection.
They are known to use this time for deep healing, spiritual work and looking within.
This is an awesome time to reveal you, to you.
Embrace your authentic self and allow yourself to be transparent and heal in your truth.
If you don't like something about yourself or feel that you've been constantly conforming to please others, or even that you just feel lost... Now is the time to find and embrace the true you. Release anything that you feel no longer serves you and move forward in light and love. Trust your journey and trust that you will receive everything you ask you for, because you deserve it.
Celebrating The Black Moon
You can celebrate the Black moon from 9/29 - 10/2 to really utilize all of it's potent energy.
Making the most of this time:
- Purge, truly cleanse your space. Here is another opportunity to get rid of anything that no longer serves you. Feel free to change your environment, rearrange your furniture, paint your home. Do whatever you need to do to make sure your space coincides with the energy you're feeling during this season.
- Write down your goals. Be explicit. Now would be a great time to create a vision board.
- Evaluate where you are, right now, in life. Compare that to where you want to be. Make changes, accordingly.
- Set clear Intentions. Live with these intentions.
- Journal. Record any rituals that you do and make vivid notes of how you feel performing each act. Before, during and after.
- Hold a candle ceremony. Check out our Magick Candles - HERE
- As always, be grateful. An attitude of gratitude is a surefire way to bring more abundance into your life.
Peace and Love, family!
